Lions look to leash Bulldogs

The Dublin Lions had some bright moments as they faced the Bulldogs on the Millsap field Friday, Sept. 6 but troubles in follow-through led to a 42-13 win for the Millsap team.

“After looking at the film, there are a lot of good things we did,” said head Dublin football coach Greg Hardcastle. “You could also see us trying to execute a game plan. We have to work on technique and hopefully get better for the next week.”

Hardcastle said Millsap brought a new challenge for the season as the Bulldogs favor passing more than DeLeon did in the season opener.

“Sometimes we let it get awayfromusonthedefense,” he admitted, but the game provided some real world experience and points to practice as Dublin looks further into the season.

Hardcastle said the coaches task the players on being better than they were the previous week, and he’s noticed that growth on the sideline.

That’s not to say Dublin was void on the defensive side Friday night. DJ Ferguson executed 9 tackles, a fumble and a sack while Kaden Gaitan and Alex Teten had 8 tackles each. Scoring 7 tackles each were Julian Caldera, Cayson Loving (who also completed a sack) and Alonso Moreno.

Gaitan provided 161 yards in passing for the game while Teten led in receiving with 73 yards and ran in one of the Lions’ touchdowns. Other leaders in receiving were Sev Ruiz who had 34 yards and Francisco Garcia who had 24 and brought in the other TD.

Jovani Cervantes led in rushing with 45 yards.

The varsity Lions are headed to Anson Friday, Sept. 13 to take on the Tigers, who are going to be feeling proud after winning the first two games of their season. The Lions may be able to exploit that pride and turn it into points.
