The Dublin Lions had a heartbreaker of a homecoming as they fell to Lindsay 70-7.
In spite of the loss, several Lions showed that trademark fight with Cayson Loving leading the offense with 11 tackles and Julian Caldera amassing 71 yards in rushing and 32 yards in receiving.
Head Dublin football coach/athletic director Greg Hardcastle commented on Loving and others returning from the injured list. “It was great to get Cayson back,” he said. “We’re starting to get a few of those guys healthy which will help us as we enter district.”
Joe Salinas, who brought in the touchdown for the Lions recovered a fumble to create a turnover. Jayden Balvantin completed the kick for the extra point.
Also leading in tackles were Balvantin, Kyler Gaitan and Westin Rollins, who each had 6. Joe Salinas contributed 4 while Ron Bahena and Caldera each had 3.
Hardcastle and crew hope to work on blocking and tackling amongst other fundamentals with the extra practice time in the bye week. The Lions will be traveling to Brady Oct. 10 after the break where they will take on the 3-2 Bulldogs.
“They’ve got some experienced linemen and good size,” said Hardcastle. “They’re a team that wants to run the ball... about 70-75% of the time. [Brady will be a ] little more like what we’re used to seeing than what Lindsay was doing with the options.”
The Lions will play in Brady Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. Tickets must be purchased online and can be purchased at https://events. hometownticketing. com/ boxoffice/bradyisd
