Lions end season of records
The 2019-2020 Dublin Lions basketball season closed Feb. 25 in a 62-56 defeat by Jim Ned at Coleman during the Bi-District playoffs. capping off a season of many records and successes.
“We ran into a very good Jim Ned team over in Coleman,” said coach Will Parker. “We played well for the three quarters and just couldn’t find a way to get it in the basket down the stretch.”
Following the close of the season, All-District selections were named with Angel Ramirez earning a spot on the First Team and Daniel Escobar and Jordan Mullin being named Second Team.
Parker reported several records from Ramirez, who has been part of 72 varsity wins as a Dublin Lion and set records for scoring 52 points in a single game and made 17 of 28 free-throw attempts in a single game (both accomplished during the Feb. 20 game against Lipan.
Ramirez also netted 161 steals through the season, which contributed to a record 375 steals in his career as a Dublin Lion.
Mullin also scored a season record of 112 three-pointers.
Team record included: seven charges in a single game in the Dec. 27 match with San Saba, 58 rebounds in a single game when the Lions faced the Stephenville Faith Knights on Dec. 13 and 27 free throws in the Jan. 7 game against Comanche.
Season records for this team included 104 charges, 593 offensive rebounds and 1,359 total rebounds.
“The guys have won 23+ games [in each season] for four years in a row,” said Parker “It’s attributed to how hard they work and their faith in what we are doing program wide. They’ve been a joy to coach and the seniors will be missed.”
