The Dublin Lions fought against tough opposition again on Friday in a 44-28 loss to the Anson Tigers in a game which was rescheduled from away to home due to flooding on the Anson field.
“I think the kids were stallions again this weekend,” said Dublin Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Bob Cervetto of his players.
“They responded to the challenge,” he continued. “I think they learned you can’t spot someone 19 points.”
In spite of the sizable Anson lead in the fourth quarter, Cervetto boasted that his players never gave up with the last Dublin TD coming in the final quarter.
He also said that the Lions came to practice Monday morning energized and ready to work on the trouble spots.
Cervetto reported that he stacks the preseason with tough competitors because he wants his players to be ready for adversity when they hit district play.
“We’ve got to start a little bit faster,” Cervetto said, adding that the game got within a touchdown once or twice after the lions hit their stride in the second quarter.
Cervetto said several of his players were new to playing under the Friday night lights and showed potential while he commended several of his regulars on their performance.
Chris Teten was 21 for 40 in passing for 355 yards in the game and rushed a touchdown.
Christian Ramirez received 8 for 247 and brought in three TDs, including one on a stellar 94-yard run.
Jacob Shubert also displayed his speed, receiving 7 for 71 yard while: Dylan Coronado racked up 72 all purpose yards, Landon Burch added 49 and Clay Collin had 47.
Cervetto expects a tight match as Dublin returns to the Bob & Norma Cervetto Field Friday night for Homecoming. They will be facing the Brady Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m., who also stand at 1-2 in the preseason.
