The Dublin Lions ended Friday’s district opener with a 38-6 loss against Comanche Indians, but nothing was penetrating either team’s defenses in the first quarter.

This included solid plays by players like Lion Michael Stanley who swooped in to split Comanche players during a field goal attempt

“Our kids played really tough in the first half,” said Dublin High Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Bob Cervetto, who was pleased with how his players kept strong especially in the face of several setbacks as the season began.

“The kids are doing everything they need to do,” he said. “They come to work and give their all.”

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, several players were out for two weeks and unable to practice with one player returning the Monday before the openers, six the next day and six the day after that.

Dublin also had to move five JV players up to fill their ranks Friday night to sub for players that are under quarantine.

Cervetto said the shuffle may have hurt the JV teams for this week but said it will prove beneficial down the line because more JV players got a chance to hit the field. Cervetto reported that

Cervetto reported that substitutions will still be required as the Lions travel to Jacksboro Friday night to take on the Tigers at 7 p.m.

“We’re going to field a team and we’ll be competitive,” he assured. “It’s just a real weird year.”

The Tigers are standing at 4-2 for the season and 1-0 in district after defeating Merkel last week.

“We’ll start to see the race unwind in the next couple of weeks,” Cervetto. “It’s still wide open.”
