LHS grads rack up $234k

Lingleville graduated 17 seniors during the 2022 commencement exercises on Friday night.

The event had a fittingly celebratory tone as salutatorian Tessa Lueck led the gym in singing happy birthday to classmate Caden Howard after sharing school memories. The graduates also flung confetti along with their caps after getting their degrees.

Valedictorian Hannah Miller spoke of the difficulty of the last few years including the experiences lost to fighting COVID. She quoted Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” before reminding that the world needs people that are caring and responsible and advising everyone to make the most of each day.

Graduates were presented with scholarships during the event, with combined awards for the class valued at more than $234,000.

Jaden VandenBerg led in awards received with the following scholarships: University of Oklahoma Academic Achievement ($40,000), Tarleton President’s Guaranteed award ($16,000), Texas State Achievement ($24,000), Texas A&M Corpus Christi Achieve ($12,000), Sam Houston Bearkat Grant ($4,000), Rose Lafferty & Flora Foust ($3,000), Upward Bound Bridge ($1,000), Texas A&M Corpus Christi Freshman ($1,000), Mickey Belew Memorial ($1,000) and Lingleville Volunteer Fire Department ($500). She was also presented with a Masonic Lodge scholarship.

Jordan Schievink received the following scholarships: Abilene Christian University Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence ($52,000), Erath County Farm Bureau ($2,000), Dwain and Carolyn Bruner Endowed ($1,000), Tarleton Proud ($1,000) and AB Ranch ($500).

Valedictorian Hannah Miller was presented with an Honor Graduate Certificate authorizing the president of any state-supported college or university to provide tuitiofree enrollment both semesters of the 2022-2023 school year. She was also presented with the following scholarships: Rose Lafferty & Flora Foust ($3,000), Dwain & Carolyn Bruner Endowed ($2,000), Bart Vankranenburg Memorial ($1,000) and Mickey Belew Memorial ($1,000).

Matti Strand was presented with a $5,000 Southeastern Oklahoma State Scholarship.

Caden Howard received the following awards: Erath County Farm Bureau ($2,000), Temple College ($1,440), Mickey Belew Memorial ($1,000) and American Legion Auxilliary ($500).

Aly Macias was presented with a $3,000 Rose Lafferty & Flora Foust Scholarship and a $500 AB Ranch Scholarship.

It was also reported that Hannah Miller and Jaden VandenBerg earned industry certification for Business Office Technology and that 12 of the seniors had a combined 139 college credit hours with a combined grade point average of 3.5
