The Dublin Lady Lions returned to the court Dec. 27- 29 for the Brownwood Holiday Classic Tournament, gaining practice as they returned to the regular season this week.

Their first game following the 5-day Christmas break was against Goldthwaite who claimed the win 69-29.

“It took us several minutes to find our legs,” said head Lady Lions basketball coach Kim Perez. Olivia Salyer led scoring with 11. Madison Turley had 10. Derby Kukla had 4, Ingrid Hernandez had 3, and Adriana Stewart had 1.

They followed this with a battle against May.

“This was a much better game for us,” said Perez. “We did some good things against them, but couldn’t buy a basket at the end.”

Dublin was edged out 41-31. Salyer had 9 points, Hernandez had 8, Kukla had 4, Turley, Emma Vargas, and Stewart had 3 each. Sydney Master had 1.

On Dec. 28, the Lady Lions played Valley Mills and won 51-40.

“We were tied at 25 at the half,” reported Perez. “We came out scoring 16 in the 3rd. Salyer was on fire. She led us with 26 points—a season high for her!”

Vargas had 8, Stewart score 7. Kukla and Hernandez had a 4 piece. Turley had 2.

The finals game was a 56-29 loss to DeLeon.

“We had more energy than we did when we played them at their house,” said Perez. The coach said the Lady Lions struggled with fouls early on and were outscored 15 to 4 in the third quarter.

“It obviously wasn’t how we wanted to end the year off, but those games were all practice games,” said Perez. “We have a lot of work to do in the next few weeks.”
