The Dublin Lady Lions treated road fans to a show Friday, Sept. 12 as they overtook Millsap in a fiveset barnburner.

“We played for two hours and could’ve kept going longer,” said head Dublin volleyball coach Hannah Smith, praising her team’s endurance and excitement. This is especially impressive since they were in the midst of a Lingleville tournament appearance Thursday and Saturday.

Smith also said the team was also resituating itself as Haden Keilers hit the injured list.

“We were one girl down and had two girls on the bench,” she said. “We had to learn to work together, whether we agree or disagree.”

Despite that, Lady Lions met Millsap ready on The Lady Bulldogs’ court.

Millsap claimed the first two sets 25-21 and 25-23.

The Lady Lions never backed down though and took the lead in set three 25-19 and claimed the win with 25-22 in set four and 15-10 in set five.

Smith said her team was bolstered by missing only 8 serves in the game and some impressive stats.

Ingrid Hernandez was well-rounded with 10 kills, 1 block, 2 aces, 6 digs, 2 assists and 2 tips.

Derby Kukla racked up 1 kill, 6 block, 1 ace, 3 digs and 2 tips.

Sandra Vasquez scored 3 aces and 8 digs. Bayli Jackson slammed 5 kills, 2 blocks and a tip.

Olivia Salyer scored 3 blocks, 2 digs and a tip while Regan Vanbebber had 3 kills, 2 blocks and an ace.

Adriana Stewart secured 3 kills and a tip while Samantha Martinez had 2 digs and Yasmin Esparza had a dig.

Emma Mitchell and Addisen Zimmerman each had 10 assists with Mitchell scoring 4 digs and Zimmerman landing 3.

This win was a welcome retribution following a 3-0 loss to Tolar at home Tuesday, Sept. 9.

The Lady Lions had a strong showing at the Lingleville tournament, starting strong Thursday, Sept. 11 with 2-0 wins against Oglesby and Three Way followed by a 2-1 loss to Zephyr. They returned to tourney play, Saturday, Sept. 13 with a 2-1 loss to Oglesby, followed by a 2-0 win over Ranger and a 2-0 loss to Lingleville.
