The state-ranked Lingleville Lady Cardinals moved their record to 21-8 as they headed into district this week.
This came after a 0-3 loss to Knox City September 30 and a 3-0 win over Ranger October 4 to end a three-game losing streak.
“We needed a good bounce back game right before district, and thats exactly what we got,” said head volleyball coach Brandon Haught of the Ranger game. “We came out firing against Ranger and never looked back, ending the game in just under 40 minutes. I would say that the 3 game losing streak had little to no effect on us, and we are ready for district play.”
Of the Knox City away game, Haught said: “We took the long road trip up to Knox City [North of Abilene], basically through the land of open fields with not much around. It was a huge wake up call for us. We needed this test before district started, because who knows... if we go deep in the playoffs we may be on a 3 hour bus ride before we play. So to take that trip and play a tough team, we got what we wanted. We certainly did not play our best game, but I am proud of the way the girls battled despite a long trip. They had championship mentality the entire game.”
The community is reminded that at the final three home games, the varsity Lady Cardinals will be doing meet and greets during the JV games at 5 p.m., and little fans can meet the girls and get a signed poster!
Haught also praised the Jr. High teams in the games against Santo as JH White won 2-0 and Maroon lost 1-2, noting the teams’ improvements after the Stephenville tournament.
