The Lady Lions went into combat with Comanche Friday, Feb. 2 for their final home game of the season.

The 72-29 score in the Maidens’ favor doesn’t convey the fight Dublin showed on the court, according to Dublin Lady Lions head basketball coach Kim Perez.

“We were driving to the rim and trying to draw contact as much as possible,” said Perez. “The girls were working hard and had great energy.”

Scoring for Dublin was led by Olivia Salyer and Adriana Rosalez with 8 each. Adiriana Stewart scored 5. Emma Vargas nabbed 4 and Derby Kukla scored 2. Madison Turley also scored a 2-pointer as Comanche let the senior come up from the injured list to score in her final home game. (See related storey on page B4.)

The Comanche battle followed a Jan. 30 fight against Breckenridge in which Breckenridge won 56-31.

Perez said the Lady Lions did some great things on the court despite the score.

“We couldn’t get the shots to fall when we needed them,” she said.

Salyer led in points with 11. Kukla followed with 6. Vargas scored 4. Ingrid Hernandez and Stewart had 3 each. Wendy Calderon and Rosalez each had 2.

Dublin Lady Lion Emma Vargas lunges for the ball after a scuffle under the net between the Lady Lions and the Comanche Maidens during the home game Friday, Feb. 2.
