Ladies go to 5 sets in Keene battle

The Dublin Lady Lions are looking to add one to the win column after a tough slate of games last week, battling Keene to five sets and taking on opponents at the Lipan tournament.

In the Tuesday, Aug. 18 Keene battle, Dublin took 19 points in sets 1 and 2 to the home team’s 25s. The Lady Lions took control in set 3 with a battling to the last point in a 26-24 outcome. They gained more ground in set 4, winning it 25-21. This led to a photo finish with Keene eking out the winning 15 points first over Dublin’s 13.

They followed this with an appearance at the Lipan tournament where they fell in three sets (scoring 17, 9 and 14) to Lipan and in two sets (scoring 14 and 19) to Santo.

The Lady Lions still managed some impressive stats in the tourney with Ashton Castillo leaning in for 17 digs.

Adriana Stewart secured 10 digs, 4 kills and 3 aces while Regan Vanbebber grabbed 5 kills, 11 digs and 5 aces.

Addisen Zimmerman had 3 kills, 5 aces and 6 digs while Kloie Whitely had 4 kills, 5 aces and 3 digs.

Haden Keilers managed 10 digs while Bayli Jackson scored 2 kills, 2 aces and 2 digs. Savannah Chacon had 1 kill and 5 aces while Samantha Martinez had 3 digs.

Ellyana Moreno was stepped up to varsity and put in 2 digs and 8 assists. Head volleyball coach Hannah Smith said she did well and melded with the team nicely as they all stepped in to support each other.

Smith reported they had one on the injured list and another missing Saturday but still “they adjusted on a new rotation and these adjustments keeping bringing these girls closer.”

Chacon was picked by the coaching staff as the Lady Lion of the week. “Savannah normally leads by example; always giving her best effort,” wrote girls athletic director Brandon Haught. “This past week, Savannah also was a vocal leader and the Lady Lions rallied behind her! So proud of Savannah and the Lady Lions for their growth this week! Brick by Brick we can build something special here!”
