The inaugural Mike McFarland Golf Tournament was held Saturday at PAR Country Club, raising $3400 to be presented in scholarships to be presented to seniors in the Dublin ISD golf program.

Shana Roberts, one of the events organizers and McFarland’s daughter reported that 49 players hit the links for the fundraiser.

“It was awesome,” Roberts said of the day, saying that she enjoyed listening to many in attendance share memories of her father and his love of the game.

Roberts said they plan to make the event better next year with lessons they learned Saturday. Plans include the addition of hole sponsors and an auction.

The annual event will continue to provide scholarsips to Dublin seniors who play the sport, with amounts based on how many years the students are involved.

If there are no seniors or few, then proceeds will go towards the purchase of equipment for the DHS golf program.

First place in the inaugural Mike McFarland Golf Tournament went to a fourman team from Dublin Bottling Works while second place went to the four-man team of Jonathan Pringle, Richard Pringle, Jason Hodges, and JP Stephen.

First place winners were presented with Callaway golf balls, $20 gift certificates to R&R BBQ and six packs of Dublin Bottling Works sodas. Second place winners received Lampman Pecans products and six-packs of Dublin Bottling Works sodas. Raymond Salinas also won a putter (provided by Blake Reeder) for taking first in a closest to the hole challenge.

Roberts wished to thank everyone who donated to the cause and all the players who showed up to participate.
