Harris winding up to head Lions

Brennan Harris was recently announced as head baseball coach for Dublin High School and he’s looking to build on strengths and capitalize on the previous years’ experience.

“We’ve been young the past two years,” Harris said of the roster that included many juniors and sophomores. “Hopefully, it comes together this year. Our strengths are we work hard and hit the ball really well.”

Building on the bonds that his players have forged, Harris is looking to make their play very teamoriented.

“It’s about us as a team,” he said. “I’m going to make sure the name on the front of the jersey is more important than the number on the back.”

Harris has been with Dublin ISD for the past three years, starting as a JV coach and then acting as assistant varsity coach the past two years. (He is also the offensive coordinator for the football team.)

Harris said he’s wanted to be a coach as long as he could remember and he’s getting to do it with the sport he loves.

“Baseball is my favorite,” he offered. “There’s no hiding; you see who can compete and who can’t.”

Harris was raised in Tuscola, Texas and graduated from Jim Ned High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in sports Management from Texas A&M University.

“Working at Dublin has so been awesome,” said Harris. “It truly is like a second family and a special place to be.”

Part of this feeling may be attributed to how the school and students have embraced Harris and his family.

The players are known to give fist bumps or high fives to Harris’ 2-year-old, Kinsler, whenever they pass by her.

Harris said the team’s interaction with his daughter has made him feel even closer to his players.

Harris is grateful for the support of the school, players and community, but counts his biggest blessings as his daughter and wife.

“This [promotion] wouldn’t mean near as much without my wife, Kylee, who has been at every game [I’ve coached].”

Harris will be ably assisted in the 2022-23 season by Dalton Soullas.
