Dublin High School was well represented in the national Family, Community and Career Leaders of America (FCCLA) competition as NavaLee White participated in the Job Interview Level 2 Contest July 1-7 in Denver, Colorado.
White was selected as one of the 8,000 across the U.S. to compete after placing third in state contest White was unable to secure a top 10 spot, she was presented a silver medal at the Texas State meeting.
“I’m very proud of her,” said Dublin High School FCCLA sponsor Regina Rasberry. “She worked hard to get where she’s at and she’s got two more years to compete. It’s great for her as a Sophomore to go to Nationals and experience what it’s like.”
Rasberry is very proud of her student, saying she has been refining her presentation from competition to competition and actively studies on her own.
In addition to spending time at the competition, Rasberry and White got to see sights like Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum and Gardens of the Gods.
The sight-seeing was worthwhile but so were the people that they met at the competition.
“It was just neat to meet all the different states,” said Rasberry. She recalled meeting one student who had a presentation on bullying and encouraged her to scan his shirt. The QR code on his sleeve directed her phone to a digital form of his presentation she is considering sharing with her students in the next school year.
Rasberry is an active advocate of the program, saying that it addresses many topics of everyday life. Unlike many sponsors, she affiliates every student in her classes with FCCLA so they can compete if they decide to after a few months or stand in for another student that leaves a competition.
The Dublin program is open to students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled or have been in one of Rasberry’s classes. The sponsor encourages any interested students to reach out to her.
