The Lingleville Cardinal gave fans a great show on Sr. Night, Thursday following the JV game.
The battle on the Lingleville gridiron between the Cards and the Perrin-Whitt Pirates was moved up a day due to the Friday rain forecast.
After Lingleville scored an almost immediate six and a two-point PAT for 8, the Pirates answered back. It seemed like the game would be give and take for the first minutes of the first quarter until Cardinal defense kicked into high gear and started holding Perrin-Whitt on their side of the field and stopped the visitors from get first downs.
The score was 44-16 at the half and was ended early when Lingleville hit 66, enacting the mercy rule.
“The boys came out and played hard against a good Perrin team,” said Lingleville head football coach Trent Taylor. “While we are unfortunately out of the playoff race, I’m proud of the boys for showing up and playing a great game. We’re going to do our best to get healthy and finish our season against a good Gorman team next week.”
Scoring was led by Izzy Juarez, who added four touchdowns, rushed for 209 yards and had six tackles.
Rocky Rangel scored two TDs, led in receiving with 58 yards and led in tackling with 12.
Xavier Figueroa also scored two touchdowns, while Klaas Schievink scored one and had 94 yards in rushing.
Jose Dominguez completed six of eight in PAT kicks. Defense was also aided by Wyatt Ray (seven tackles) and Daniel Aguero (six tackles).
The Cardinals travel to Gorman Friday night to face the Panthers at 7:30 p.m.
