MATHIS

Olene Mathis, 98, went to be with the Lord on July 2, 2021, at her home in Highland, Texas.

She was born on November 13, 1922 in the Highland community to her parents Jessie Lee (Corbell) and Richard Edwin House. Olene graduated from Comyn High School in 1940. Olene was raised in the Highland community and was a lifelong active member of the Highland Missionary Baptist Church. She married her husband, B.W. Mathis, on July 3, 1943 and together they had three children Ronald, Nancy, and Ricky. Olene was a homemaker all her life. She played the piano for Highland Missionary Baptist Church for the first time when she was ten years old and started playing full time when she was twelve years old. Olene continued to play the piano or organ for Highland Missionary Baptist Church until she was ninety years old.

She is proceeded in death by her husband B.W. Mathis in 2002, her son Ricky Mathis in 2021, and her brother Thurston House.

Olene is survived by her children Ronald D. Mathis and wife Glenys of Highland and Nancy Couch and husband Ronnie of Highland, her ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous other family members, friends and loved ones who will miss her dearly.

Visitation will be at Harrell Funeral Home on Monday, July 5, 2021 from 5 p.m.–7 p.m.

Service will take place Highland Missionary Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 2 p.m.

Interment will follow in Round Grove Cemetery.
