She and Dean lived in Oklahoma City from 1960 until their return to De Leon in 1977 when they purchased the family farm. Joan was a long-time member of Northside Baptist Church of De Leon and she loved her church family dearly.

She enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, playing the piano, singing, reading non-fiction, studying her Bible, and visiting with her many dear friends.
Joan’s family was the center of her life and she treasured any time she was able to spend with them.
