Jimmy “Whistle” Gene Thompson was born on October 13, 1937, in Gorman Texas. He passed away peacefully on October 14, 2026 at his home in Dublin, Texas at the age of 89 years.
He was the son of GL (Bill) & Beulah Thompson. He graduated from Carlton High School in 1956. Gene joined the Army on July 21, 1958, where he served 3 Years and was honorable discharged in 1962 when he married the love of his life Judy King on January 19.
He worked for Poston’s Feed Store in Dublin, Texas until he bought it for himself and it was then Thompson’s Feed Store for several years. He was also a school board member for 9 years and Masonic Lodge member for many years. He then went to work for AMPI for 10 years and Walco for 8 years where he retired from both.
He always had a love for farming and livestock but above all his family was his everything.
He is preceded in death by his parents, GL (Bill) & Beulah Thompson, Granddaughter, Falon Rae Hicks, and Brother, Thomas Glenn Thompson.
He is survived by His Wife, Judy Ann Thompson, Brother, Roy Thompson, Sister, Virginia Ballew, Daughter, Norma Thompson-Doane & Son-In Law Chuck Doane, Son, Jimmy Dean Thompson & Daughter-In Law JeriLi Thompson, Daughter, Dorothy Thompson & Son-In Law Clayton Thompson, Grandchildren: Stormi Hicks, Tanna Hulsey, Samantha Thompson, Shelby Latham, Shawn Thompson & Sabrina Cockburn, Great-Grandchildren: Riley McClatchy, Harley Pinckard Jr., Tucker Pinckard, Kiari Thompson, Charli Cockburn, Collin Cockburn, Judah Latham & Sunny Cockburn and many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
A visitation will be held Sunday, October 18, 2026 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home. Services will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026 at the Greens Creek Baptist Church beginning at 1:30 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Live Oak Cemetery in Dublin, Texas.
