Darlene Frances West, 74, of DeLeon, peacefully passed away December 28, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Sept. 8, 1944, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to Oscar C. West and Margaret A. Kohler West.
Darlene enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Houston in 1964 and was proud of her service to her country.
She was stationed in California and Hawaii during the Vietnam War Era. She was honorably discharged as rank SGT-E5 in 1967.
Darlene lived in the DeLeon and Dublin communities since 1992. In her civilian life, she worked for USMC and the civil service until her retirement.
Darlene was a lifetime member of the VFW and was a member of the American Legion for 36 years. She was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend.
She is survived by her brother and his wife, Dale and Pat Mountain; brother, Rex O. West; nieces, Dianna Mayfield, Debbie Skoruppa; Karen Freeland; nephews, Eugene (Jacup) Aurant and Chris Mountain; dear friend, Erma Rotz; and step-daughter, Joy Lynn Wallace.
Darlene was preceded by her parents, Charlie O. West and Margaret A. West; sisters, Florine Yost, Leda E. Wren and Lora Marmalich; and step-brother, Bradley E. West.
Funeral services celebrating Darlene’s life will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at 4 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home, DeLeon, with Brother Jimmy Holleman officiating.
The West family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Darlene will be laid to rest in DFW National Cemetery on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at 10 a.m.
