Garden Club hears about native plants

Body

The Dublin Garden Club held their regular scheduled meeting Jan. 10, in the fellowship hall of Laurel Street United Methodist Church.

Guest speaker was Dr. Marsh Stephens, a Master Naturalist. Dr. Stephens spoke about Texas Native plants and their definitions. If it’s invasive it is not native. If it is noxious it is not native. Native occurs without human intervention.

Dr. Stephens also addressed the eleven eco regions covering Texas. Of the eco regions Erath County has three in parts of the county. There are several apps, for the smart phone, or review on a computer, at are free. These can identify the plant and if it is native. One app is www.npsot.org. Another iswww.texasprairie.org.

We did very well at our Christmas Tour of Homes. We want to thank everyone who helped us with this fundraiser that supports scholarships for our graduating Dublin seniors.

We meet the second Wednesday at 3 p.m. each month. We have speakers each month. We invite you to join us.
