Garden club learns about mulching

Body

The Dublin Garden Club held their regular scheduled meeting October 11th. Guest speaker was Paul Bradberry.

Paul spoke about the proper use of compost, fertilizer and mulching. It is very important to know the size being treated so that the correct amount is used.

Most of the time the use of fertilizer is overdone. This is not helpful to the soiland plants being treated. Step or measure off each area being treated and then follow the directions on the bag. Also, you can be proactive or reactive. So many people wait until they see a problem then have to be aggressively reactive. Proactive always results in less work. For instance, if you want to be ahead of henbit next spring, this is the time to treat it.

Nitrogen greens up plants, phosphorus helps with blooming, and potassium provides nutrients to root systems. Keeping the soil healthy is the key to a successful yard and garden.

Also, the Garden Club is back hosting The Christmas Tour of Homes this year. It will be the afternoon of December 10. The money raised supports a scholarship for a graduating Dublin Senior. More to come later.

We meet the second Wednesday at 3pm each month. We have speakers each month. We would love to have you join us.
