The first bale of cotton which was grown by John Edge, was brought to Dublin on Friday, Sept. 3, and ginned by H.L. Kight. The cotton graded strict midling and the bale weighed 480 lbs. after it was ginned. Up to this date the cotton has not sold but is worth 30 cents a lb. states Mr. Kight. Mr. Edge states that he expects to get two more bales of cotton off the same patch.
It has been the custom in Dublin for many years to give a premium each year for the first bale of cotton brought in. The amount given to Mr. Edge this year was $35 cash and his cotton was ginned free by Mr. Kight. The premium was gotten up by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce and donations were made by the Dublin businessmen.
