Rodeo this weekend

This week marks an exciting event in Stephenville history as the Cowboy Capital of the World Pro Rodeo takes the stage at a new location.

The rodeo is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, and Saturday, Sept. 23, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at the new Cowboy Capital Fairgrounds east of Stephenville on U.S. Highway 67.

Events include slack events on Thursday, Sept. 21 which are free to the public to watch at 9 a.m. PCRA Steer Roping Slack and 6 p.m. WPRA Barrel Racing Slack both at the fairgrounds arena.

On Friday, Sept. 22 there is another free slack event for spectators at 9 a.m. with the PCRA Timed Event slack at the Fairgrounds arena.

At noon, there is an “Art of the Cowgirl” VIP Luncheon and Fashion Show at First United Methodist Church. The first night of the rodeo will kick off Friday at 7 p.m. with “American Patriot Night – Honoring all those who serve” sponsored by First Financial Bank at the Fairgrounds Arena. At 9 p.m. there will be a Dancin’ in the Dirt Live Music Concert featuring Clayton Landua Music (free admission with a rodeo ticket).

On Saturday, Sept. 23 rodeo fun continues with the 7:30 a.m. Cowboy Capital 5K in Stephenville City Park followed by the Cowboy Capital Rodeo Parade at 10 a.m. The route for the parade begins at City Park, up and around the downtown square and then goes back to the park.

Saturday night will host the second PRCA rodeo performance with “It’s Gonna Get Western Night” sponsored by the Hay and Feed Ranch at the Fairgrounds Arena starting at 7 p.m. Following the rodeo at 9 p.m. there will be a Dancin’ in the Dirt Live Music concert with Jake Hooker and The Outsiders (free admission with a rodeo ticket).

On Sunday, Sept. 24. at 2 p.m. there will be the third PRCA rodeo performance “Sunday Showdown” presented by JJ Hampton Realty at the Fairgrounds Arena.

Rodeo tickets are available at Bradberry’s Best, Capital Hatters, Chick Elms Grand Entry Western Store, Saddle Rags and the Western Store. Adults are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Kids age 6-12 is $8 in advance, $10 at the door and five and under are free.
