Friendship leads to new business location for duo

Friendship has led to a new business combination in downtown Dublin with Lucky Nutrition and Southern Sass Hair Salon joining forces.

The new combined establishment is located at 117 E. Blackjack and showcases more space for both owners, Kayla Conner and Olivia Garcia who previously had smaller locations.

When the duo became friends, it just clicked, they said.

“We can’t get away from each other,” Garcia joked, saying they often spent time each other outside of work, or hung out at the other one’s establishment prior to the combination business opening.

They both needed more space and when the building on Blackjack opened up, it was love at first walk through.

“We both wanted it and it happened very fast,” Garcia said. Within a couple of weeks the new location was up and running and the friends had a new business venture together.

For those unfamiliar with Lucky Nutrition, it has been open for a couple of years in Dublin and was formerly located next to the Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum.

“I really love this area and all our neighbors have been very welcoming,” she said.

Lucky Nutrition specializes in meal replacement shakes, energy teas and coffee, and has started offering protein waffles.

“It’s the same thing as a protein shake but you add an egg,” Garcia explained. “Any shakes can be turned into a waffle.”

The Lucky Nutrition owner said she originally started the business to lose weight herself after being a patron of a similar shop in Granbury. She also is a single mom of two sons, one who is autistic and a picky eater, so they would utilize the shake shop.

Currently, the business is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and every other Saturday.

“They love the new location,” she said. “Our family and friends have been very supportive.”

Garcia also offers school deliveries on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, which can be accomplished via text at (254) 294-9606.

Garcia’s menu can be located on her Facebook page http://facebook.com/luckynutritiongethealthy. She also offers different specials on her page each month.

Garcia admits she was nervous about moving to her new location because several truckers will stop and get drinks, with easier parking at her former shop.

“But they’ve all found me and we have been making it work,” she said.

For Southern Sass Hair Salon owner Kayla Conner, the move was bittersweet since she had been in her former location next to Sonic for 13 years.

The hair stylist offers cuts, color and waxing for both men and women.

“I’m really enjoying all the extra room we have,” she said. “Everyone has loved it so far.”

Along with herself, the salon has two other cosmetologists, Roxana Dominguez and Miranda Calderon.

For Conner, being a hair stylist is something she has always wanted, even from the time she was a little girl.

“I was always braiding my Barbie’s hair,” she said, laughing.

“This feels like a new venture in life,” she said.

Conner mostly works by appointment and the best way to reach her is by calling or texting (575) 408-0853.
