The Bosque River Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas held their April meeting on April 11 in Stephenville. The program was “Texas Music” presented by the Stephenville Music Club led by club president Kelly Nance.
The club’s theme for 2023 is “A Toast to Texas” . It was a rousing program that included the standards such as “Waltz Across Texas” and “God Bless Texas” and finished with everyone joining is singing “Texas Our Texas”. The chapter then presented a copy of the book and CD, “Music of the Alamo” by Chemerka and Wiener for the music club to use as a reference or to give to a school.
April 21 is San Jacinto Day, commemorating the day the Texian Army defeated the Mexican Army led by Santa Anna near what is now Houston. Four chapter members who are direct descendants of Texians who fought in the battle were present at the meeting.
Seven chapter members will attend the National DRT Convention to be held in Galveston in May.
Bosque River Chapter sponsored Patricia Ritchey of Boyd as DRT Seventh Grade Teacher of the Year. She will be presented her award of a plaque and $750 during the convention. Her school will also receive a monetary award.
