The Dublin Woman’s Thursday Club recently met and touring the beautiful new Blackjack Office Center.
Thank you to Karen Wright for hosting the club at the Blackjack Office Center Feb. 9.
The conference room of this beautiful downtown property was perfect for the gathering.
With 13 members present, four absent and two guests, President Fran Jurney called the group to order.
The club was so delighted to welcome five new members: Wanice Brown, Penny Corona, Edilsia Jimenez, Sheri Vanderpool and Wyndi Veigel.
President Jurney passed out new bags and lists for the second round of hygiene bags to be delivered to the First Methodist Church Food Pantry in May.
She also explained her President’s Project to the new members of collecting paper goods for the CWJC.
In discussion of new business, it was confirmed that the Miss Dublin and Junior Miss Dublin Tea would be held at the FMC on March 5 at 2 p.m.
A sign-up sheet for members to set up, stay during the tea and clean-up was circulated.
The 125th anniversary is quickly approaching. A luncheon at the Little Church on Grafton will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 25.
Both state and district people are expected to attend along with our local members.
Members were reminded to “feed the kitty” for the scholarship fund. Also discussed were the Bluebonnet Books to be given to the Dublin Public Library. This has become an annual project for the club.
“The History of TarletonStateUniversity” was presented by Judy Lunsford. The original building for the university dated back to 1893 with the official opening coming on Sept. 4, 1899.
By 1902-‘03, the enrollment had doubled from the 1899 start date. Discussion then went to the many improvements that have come through the years and the enormous growth that has enlarged the enrollment many times over.
The meeting ran long and was adjourned shortly before 6 p.m. The anniversary luncheon will be the next meeting.
