There are certain weeks that make it rough to be in the news industry.
A quick glance at our front page probably communicates this was one of those for both Wyndi and I.
I have to prepare any time I report on the death of anyone in the community, particularly people I know. Wyndi had to delve into an uncomfortable subject matter.
As writers you have to internalize information, arrange it in a clear way and present it in a manner that is respectful of your subjects and the situations.
I’d be lying if I said weeks like this don’t rattle you.
Fortunately, I had Wyndi and I hope she can say the same of me.
I was asked this week about “nearly married life” and I immediately responded it was great because when things get rough, having each other makes it better.
To me, that’s the sign of a good match.
We can definitely get on each other’s nerves from time to time. (Somehow, she doesn’t always enjoy my tendency to sign silly foodrelated parodies of pop songs... Gasp!)
The majority of time though, we get each other’s humor and can riff about stupid things together. Even more importantly, we know the difficulties that come with this job and often know what the other needs in those troubling times, whether it’s simply someone to listen to you vent or watching a cooking show together on the couch.
I’ve seen what a bad match looks like from the outside and the inside. Tempers flare and partners raise the tension even higher with arguments and accusations without considering or realizing the problems currently facing the other person.
Love is many things but one of the major cornerstones is support. I hope everyone realizes where they have that this Valentine’s Day and appreciates how special that is.
