So this is your friendly newspaper reminder (gentlemen) that Valentine’s Day is celebrated each year on Feb. 14 and that date falls on Tuesday of next week.
I realize that gives you plenty of procrastination time (I’m the daughter of a florist, I know how this works), but it also gives you time to prepare and to shop local.
I’m not sure how often everyone ventures into the great shops we have in Dublin, but if you haven’t been out in a bit, let me just brag on our businesses and share some local gift ideas.
The Golden Butterfly Jewelers:
Celebrating its 50th year in business, this jewelry shop has myriad pieces of jewelry for sale (including hearts) and preserved roses that last forever. (118 N.

Dublin Floral Company:
Flowers from a floral designer are a welcome gift and Dublin Floral has many options including a dozen roses for $85. (126 N. Patrick St.: Mon.-Fri. 9-4)
Brookshire Brothers:
This one may surprise you but Brookshire Brothers is offering chocolate dipped strawberries this year ordered through their bakery department. Go online for more information. They also offer many bakery items. (208 N. Patrick St. 7-days a week 7-9)
Blessings:
This store has a ton to choose from including makeup through Merle Norman, faith-based gifts, adorable jewelry, purses and home decor items. They also have a selection of gifts for men, also. (Guys get V-day gifts too). (120 E. Blackjack St.: Mon.-Sat. 10 -6)
Hot Tempered Chocolates:
A fairly new business located inside Blackjack Office Center, there is a bounty of handmade chocolate truffles and other confections, bagged up elegantly just in time for V-day. (126 East Blackjack Street, Suite 101: Wed. Fri. 10:30-6, 10-5 Saturday)
Things Celtic:
Let’s face it, we live in Dublin and therefore celtic items are appropriate for any season. Especially since St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. Things Celtic has many jewelry selections and other gift items.

Rusty Rose:

Back Home General Store:
New to town, this reflllery offers a selection of great bath products that come in jars that can be refilled including sugar scrub, lotions and more. Not sure what fragrance someone would like? They offer gift cards.

Interior Dimensions and ID Boutique:

1.21 GW:
One of the newer stores in Dublin, the antique store offers an eclectic variety of items that would make a great gift including vinyl records, dishes and more.

options (including some newcomers).
The Deer Lease Bar and Grill:
If you haven’t checked out Deer Lease you’re missing out. The bar and grill presents a laid back, fun eatery with delicious food and drinks.

Red Barrel Bar and Grill:

Backwoods:
A newcomer to Dublin, Backwoods offers a wide variety of foods on their menu including from scratch cuisine encompassing salads, burgers, steaks and much more. They also offer drinks and a really cool arcade that operates on quarters for kids or anyone else who wants to go back to their childhood for a game of Skee-ball.
