From the Editor
Starting off this week, we apologize to our print readers for being late with this edition.
There are a lot of moving parts to publishing every week and when winter weather makes roads hazardous, you have to consider the safety of drivers who travel across several counties to pick up and deliver the news.
Thank you all for the patience and understanding.
One of the benefits to working in a small town is that you get the option of walking or driving to work.
On Tuesday morning, Wyndi and I bundled up and leashed Cooper for a walk in the ice and snow so we could snap some winter weather pics.
Cooper is a Siberian Husky/ German Shepherd mix who loves to chase and be chased around the backyard but is notoriously bad on a leash. As we started walking down Travis Street to see the Memorial Stadium blanketed in snow, Cooper would shuffle forward about five feet and then see a bush that was too interesting to be ignored.
*JERK* went the leash as he lunged nose forward.
I planted my feet on the road as I tried to pull him away.
He turned his head to check why I interrupted him.
Then, he spied something interesting on the other side. What? I don’t know. I just saw a bunch of snow and dried grass as I was whipped around when he tried to run for the other side of the street.
“You would be the worst sled dog!,” I exclaimed as I tried to stop from skidding.
I always imagine huskies in teams driving straight forward. Cooper’s pattern was more like a windshield wiper.
As we turned around, I saw Wyndi’s footprints forming a pretty straight line while mine looked like a drunk man and dog were coming home after a bender.
I admit that snow is a rare commodity in Dublin so he was visibly excited. We should all remember to stop and check out the sights when we can. Just don’t drag down your walking companions when you run for the next thing that excites you.
