Creativity abounds each and every day at The Chaos Trading Company in DeLeon and is on display by owner Sarah Childers.
The 7-month old company boasts a wide range of classes each month, as well as weekly yoga classes and a variety of handmade art for sale by area artists. There is also a monthly Farmers Market and pet adoptions that take place in the pet friendly business.
“It doesn’t have to be just one thing,” Childers said.
Childers spoke about going through a difficult part of her life with a huge amount of loss in a short period of time.
Every Saturday, Childers would attend a yoga class and have a delicious breakfast burrito, with avocado. This routine became her coping mechanism.
“It became my coping mechanism and helped save me,” she said.
So when the current building became for sale in DeLeon, Childers knew it was time to act. She began doing research as to what was needed in the area and developed a pretty unique business plan, one that she hopes will offer coping opportunities for someone else.
As someone who is into education, Childers knew she wanted to offer classes where people could learn a new skill, activity or just enjoy some time with friends.
In February, these classes includedogtrainingworkshop (Feb. 4, 9 a.m. - $35), women’s self defense class (Feb. 10, 6-8 p.m. - $40), medicinal herbs workshop (Feb. 11, 10-noon $65), candle making (Feb. 11, 1-3 p.m. - $65), wire wrapped jewelry (Feb. 11, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. - $35), dog obedience workshop - 6 weeks (Feb 16 6-7 p.m. - $180), dog training workshop (Feb. 18 - 9-10 a.m. - $35), what are your face, tongue and nails trying to tell you workshop (Feb. 18 - 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. - $75), aromatherapy class (Feb. 18 3-5 p.m. - $65), sip and paint (Feb. 18 - 6-8 p.m. - $35), women’s self defense class ( Feb. 24 - 6-8 p.m. - $40), dog training workshop (Feb. 25 - 9 - 10 a.m. - $35), wood burning class (Feb. 25 - 10noon - $75).
Beginners yoga is offered at 6 p.m. each on Wednesdays. While there is no cost, donations are accepted and participants need to bring their own mats.
Classes are offered by a variety of teachers who possess different skills and wish to share them with those who are interested.
On the second Saturday of each month, there is an indoor Farmers Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
While the classes being offered, especially yoga, are a highlight for Childers, showcasing artists is another passion of hers.
A wide variety of artists’ work are displayed and are for sale including paintings, paper crafts, crochet, jewelry and much more.
Regular public hours for the store are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and the store is located at 166 N. Texas Street in DeLeon.
“People are really starting to find me, which is exciting,” Childers said. She has recently had visitors from Houston and New Mexico who came to a class and to check out the business.
“I’m all about real, authentic people so it makes me excited,” she said.
The best way to find out about monthly classes is to follow Chaos Trading Company on facebook or www. thechaostradingcompany. com. Class signups are through eventbrite.
“People are interested in experiences and enrichment so we are excited to be able to bring that to them,” she said.
