Dublin Garden Club

Body

The Dublin Garden Club held the regular January meeting Wednesday, Jan. 11.

Guest speaker was Erin Broumley, landscape designer. Erin has many years experience starting at age 16 at Wolfe Nursery in Stephenville.

Erin presented a program on reasons for landscaping, types of landscapes, trees and shrubs that are hardy for our area and provide beauty to our landscapes. Trees recommended are; Chinese Pistachio, Burr Oak and Chinquapin Oak as they are more wilt resistant. Shrubs recommended; Smoke Tree, Vitex, Mt. Laurel, Holly, Bayberry, Drift Roses, Crepe Myrtle. For the crepe myrtle mature size is an important consideration to insure unsightly trimming of this plant is not needed. A crepe myrtle should never have its limbs cut back. This will impact the overall health of the plant.

We meet the second Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. Next month our speaker will be Lonnie Jenschke, County Ag. Agent.

We always have educational meetings. We would love for you to join us. Please contact President Mary Howard at 977-3686 for additional information.
