“Although our record may not be impressive at the first glance, if you are not watching the Lady Lions you are missing out,” said head Lady Lions basketball coach Kim Perez, who scored high in two close calls last week. “Each player is stepping up and learning their roles on the team.”

The Dublin girls were at home on Jan. 10 as they faced Comanche a fiercely fought 63-47 loss.

“The Lady Lions fought tooth and nail for that one, Perez said. “It was neck and neck the entire game.”

Comanche extended its lead in the third quarter, scoring 19 to Dublin’s nine in that period. That heralded in a lively fourth quarter with constant cheers and jeers from the stands and benches.

Perez called out NavaLee White for her performance in the game as she scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals.

Gabby Herrera had 9 points. Madilyn Loper had 8 points and 9 rebounds Emma Vargas followed with 6, Sierra Chapa with 3, and Jaden Harrell, Madison Turley, and Libertie Turner with 2.

Dublin followed this with a 65-52 away game in Eastland’s favor on Friday, Jan. 13.

“We were stealing left and right in our press,” said Perez of the team heading into Friday’s game. “We were ready to go.”

Perez said her girls kept shooting but couldn’t seem to score when they needed it.

Herrera led Dublin scoring in the game with 21 points 8 rebounds and 6 steals.

White had 8 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Turner had 8 points, 4 rebounds 1 steal, Turley had 5 points, 6 rebounds 2 steals, Vargas and Derby Kukla put up 4 each, and Loper had 2 points and 13 rebounds.

“Madi definitely helped us getting rebounds and giving us the second chance opportunity,” Perez added. “The good thing is we face each team all over again, and we are ready for a different outcome.”
