Shop Small, shop local

Are you about to start your Christmas shopping? Shop local first!

With both Black Friday and Shop Small Saturday this weekend, Dubliners can help local businesses and their own economy by purchasing items from local businesses.

Small Business Saturday, which is set for the Saturday after Thanksgiving each year [Nov. 26 this year] was started by American Express in 2010 amid a recession to encourage people to Shop Small and bring more holiday shopping to small businesses.

In 2011, the Senate unanimously passes a resolution in support of the day, and officials in all 50 states participate.

You might not realize it, but every time you pick up a cup of coffee from your favorite neighborhood cafe or buy a gift from a local store, you’re shopping small and making a difference.

This year, the Dublin Citizen is encouraging Shopping Small, and Local with our shopping directory featured on page 8A. Whether it is supporting a 50-year-old jewelry store like Golden Butterfly or finding a unique gift at Blessings, Dublin has it all!
