The difference between a win and loss can be a single point.
Dublin Lions experienced this Friday night in their 21-20 home victory over the Jacksboro Tigers.
“The special teams ended up being the difference in the game,” said Dublin Lions Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Greg Hardcastle. “We made all of our extra points.”
The game started off with some strong holding from the home team who caged the tigers close to the visitor’s endzone, but Jacksboro broke free with long passes in the second quarter, leading to a halftime score of 14 to 7.
“I thought the kids did a good job fighting back after being two runs down,” Hardcastle said of his team’s rebound back in the second half.
The final score happened with a few minutes on the clock, but the Lions regained the ball with a big interception and was able to run the clock to secure the victory.
Cooper Hubble led in receiving with 87 yards, providing two touchdowns.
Cameron Patton and Christian Ramirez followed with 72 and 71 yards respectively. Patton also rushed for 35 yards in which he brought in the other TD. Ramirez also rushed for 45 yards and was three for three in PAT kicks.
This win leaves Dublin tied for first in district with Eastland (2-0) and with a season record of 5-1.
The Lions travel to Merkel on Friday to take on the Badgers at 7 p.m. Hardcastle expects a fight, saying that Merkel led Jacksboro in the first week of district.
“We’ve got to be ready for them,” he said. “We’ll keep going one game at a time and stay on the path.”
