Dear Editor:

I drive by the old Dublin Railroad depot and always think what a neat old building.

And then I think why is it just sitting there? I thought some work was being done on it a few years ago, but then it seemed to stop. Why?

Near where I used to live in central Kansas, there was a city with a nicely restored old depot that was big enough to hold a visitor center and a couple of shops. It anchored one end of downtown.

Dublin’s depot could act as an anchor for part of Dublin downtown, and maybe as a focal point that would spur more interest in developing other properties nearby.

There are the old brick walkways, parking, a great old facade… Just rejuvenating the facade could make it an attraction.

Has the issue of the Dublin Depot come up in these pages earlier than I remember? Well, it’s time to revisit. It’s time for renewal.

All across the country, small communities take pride in their restored train depots.

Our Dublin depot is a neat old building and a potential community resource—we should not let that slip away.
