Bibliophilia is the love of books, and a bibliophile or bookworm is an individual who loves and frequently reads books. Dublin has quite a colony of these creatures.

Different strokes for different folks certainly hold true. Even though many people enjoy reading, most have one or two genres that are favorites. The Dublin Public Library has an inventory that spans the whole field.

Romance novels are extremely popular. Readers tend to follow favorite authors, many of these are set in series format and follow the same characters of families for generations.

Elin Hilderbrand is popular with our local readers. The library has quite a collection of her work. She uses Nantucket Island as the setting for most of her books and her readers are familiar with the characters. Most of her books are stand-alone but are connected through the setting and reoccurring characters. “Beautiful Day” is one of the newest novels by this author in the library.

Mystery novels also draw a large audience. They also often follow the series format. Readers find protagonists they like and then stick with them. Mysteries start with an exciting hook and pull the reader along with suspenseful pacing.

“The Chain” by Adrian McKinty falls into this category. Offering a walk on the dark side of mysteries, the story revolves around children being kidnapped.

The library has a wide selection of books from this genre.

Fantasy and science fiction books often take place in a different time period from out own. Frequently featuring magical creatures or wizards or zombies, they are often set in a dystopian past or future.

Dean Koontz is a favorite of this genre. The library has many of his books and “Ashley Bell” is a recent acquisition. When a young woman learns she is dying, she sets off to do a good dead that takes her across the country and ultimately gets tangled in a web of sinister crimes and conspiracies.

Young Adult Fiction is geared toward a teenage audience but often appeals to a wider scope. Sci-fi, romance, crime to fantasy fall into this group that targets teens. However, the “Harry Potter” series as well as “The Hunger Games” were billed as young adult books. “Goosebumps” is another extremely popular series for this slot.

Patrick Flores-Scott’s “American Road Trip” is a great coming of age book exploring the many pressures of teens in economic circumstances and the highs and lows of falling love. This can be found in our library.

B i o g r a p h y , autobiography, and memoirs bring nonfiction to readers. Many patrons read only nonfiction. These accounts are the real facts.

Gary O’Neal’s “American Warrior” is the true story of legendary Army Ranger David Fisher. Wellresearched, this is one for the historian.
