Hamilton Herald-News The American Legion

The American Legion hosted their annual anvil shoot set for Veteran’s Day. The event has been held every year since 1918 to mark the end of World War I. To let the community members know that the war was over, local officials acquired two anvils from a local blacksmith and placed them one on top of the other with gunpowder in-between them. The explosion let the gathered crowd know that the war was over. The anvils in use this year are from the same blacksmith shop, being donated to the Legion when it went out of business.

DeLeon Free-Press

A photo featured a 12 foot alligator that was found in a lake in Duster. Matt Sparger, a resident of DeLeon, went fishing at the Soil Conservation Lake when he noticed something unusual and reported it to Mike Huddleston. After returning to the lake a week later, Sparger saw the unusual site again and called Huddleston to say that he believed there was a alligator in the lake and wanted to know what to do. Armed with binoculars and two rifle scopes, the gator was shot and floated to the surface the next day. This was the first sighting of an alligator in Comanche County.
