Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, where
2,977 victims were killed.
The attacks included 1,700 victims from the North Tower and 1,000 from the South Tower of the World Trade Center, 125 deaths at the Pentagon and 44 deaths at the Flight 93 crash site,
92 (American Airlines Flight 11),
65 (United Airlines Flight 175),
64 (American Airlines Flight 77).
9/11 marked the largest loss of life for first responders in any single incident including 344 firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers and 55 military personnel, and remains the deadliest terrorist act in human history.
“Twenty-five years ago this September the 11th almost 3,000 people lost their lives when we were attacked by terrorists. We will never forget those lost or over 400 first responders who were killed in the line of duty that day. Our annual 9/11 memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. at Art Briles Stadium as we will formally honor our fallen heroes and the lives lost,” Stephenville Police Chief Dan Harris said.
For those looking to commemorate the anniversary, there is a free first responder breakfast from 7-9 a.m. hosted by the Stephenville Area Elks Lodge 2834.
The breakfast is free to all first responders to honor all those who bravely serve our communities.
The event will be held at the lodge located at 1560 W. Hyman Street.
There will also be an area wide 25th anniversary of 9/11 ceremony at 10 a.m. at Art Briles Stadium in Stephenville.
The ceremony is free to the public and will be held on the home side, in the breezeway area, with seating provided.
Friday evening, Shenanigan’s Irish Pub in Dublin will be hosting a salute to volunteer firefighters where donations will be accepted for area volunteer fire departments.
Starting at 7 p.m. there will be free Texas country music with The Little Creek Revival and a full menu will be available.
