No indictments have been returned on the deadly force officer involved shooting that occurred July 21 in Stephenville.
According to information released by Erath County District Attorney Alan Nash and a grand jury heard the evidence Aug. 20. A grand jury hears information presented for all felony cases in order to determine if there is sufficient evidence to move forward with a trial.
Texas Ranger B.J. Hill presented investigatory findings and evidence relating to the actions of peace officers of the Stephenville Police Department, Erath County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Public Safety (DPS) following dispatch to a residence for a person in distress, and subsequent calls for assistance by first responding officers.
“The Grand Jury determined that no indictments should issue. I concur with the determination of the Grand Jury, and it is my opinion that the use of deadly force by law enforcement officers was lawful, justified and appropriate,” Nash said.
“Law enforcement deployed force only when the distressed person exited his home and advanced on officers while pointing a firearm in the direction of officers,” Nash continued.
