The Dublin Lady Lions hosted Graford and Hamilton in games Tuesday, Aug. 11 besting Graford 2-1 and falling to Hamilton’s Lady Bulldogs in two sets. In their Graford match-up, Dublin put up 16 in the first set, but got their 25s in sets 2 and 3 while allowing 21 and 16 from the visitors. Against Hamilton, Dublin put up 10 and 15.
The Lady Lions then traveled to Lipan Thursday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 15 for Tournament play. They started the tourney in good fashion, besting Bluff Dale in two sets while the Lady Bobcats scored 9 and 16.
Dublin followed this with two-set losses to Garner and Chico on Aug. 13, putting up 15 and 11 against Garner and 16 and 22 to Chico.
The Lady Lions started Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Meridian as Dublin scored 25, 19 and 25 to Meridian’s 22, 25 and 18. They followed this with games against Weatherford Christian (where they scored 13 and 11) and Graford (where they scored 20 and 18).
“The Lady Lions showed up and put in the work this past week at the Lipan tournament,” said head DHS volleyball coach Hannah Smith. Despite navigating the exhaustion of the first week of school, the team fought through every game. “Overall they have been working on chemistry and determination. out a few early-season kinks, their effort was highly encouraging. The Lady Lions finished the tournament with a 2-4 record, bringing their overall season record to 3-5. it was a promising showcase of resilience that sets a strong foundation for the weeks ahead.”
DHS Girls athletic director Brandon Haught also reported the girls athlete of the week was sophomore McKayla Hernandez. “Not only is she working extremely hard in both Cross Country and Volleyball, McKayla also is in Cheer and Band,” said Haught. “She shows that although we all may have many things to juggle in our day to day lives, that there is still always room to lead by example!”
