A very busy week was had with Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council's annual Manners Camp.
Girls and boys alike learned a wide variety of things associated with manners and etiquette.
'Our Manners Camp was a huge hit! The young ladies and gentlemen learned important social skills and proper etiquette, but more importantly, how to treat others with respect and kindness,' CTFAC Executive Director Christine Newton said.
The class was led by Mrs. Kelijon Nance along with CTFAC staff members Natalie West, Jon Newton and Kathryn Parish. Student volunteers – Ana M. and Addy M. also aided in the week-long camp at the Stephenville Historical House Museum.
On the first day of classes, the campers learned how to properly greet people, introduce themselves and deliver a firm handshake. Campers also had the chance to paint unique designs on vases which were fired in a kiln by CTFAC Resident Artist, Linda Wood.
On day 2, campers learned how to be a good guest and also how to write and mail a proper thank you note. Campers got a chance to practice on their very own personalized notecards.
On day 3, the young ladies and gentlemen were taught about different types of place settings, when to use them and proper etiquette to use when eating a meal.
Day 4 included young ladies learning about entering and exiting a vehicle in a dress, how to carry themselves confidently when walking and sitting as well as creating beautiful floral arrangements in their newly painted vases. Mrs. Nance also had Mr. Newton demonstrate to the young gentleman about how to tie a necktie properly. The young men were instructed also on how to help a lady in and out of a car and they also had a chance to arrange florals in their newly fired ceramic vases.
On the final day of camp, a reception was held for the campers along with parents, grandparents, and family members as well as invited guests, dignitaries, and CTFAC Board Members, who took time out of their busy day to be a part of the special celebration.
The reception allowed the campers to put into action what they had learned including shaking hands and interacting with guests.
The reception and refreshments were sponsored by Nance Chiropractic Clinic.
