Ever since moving to Dublin I’ve enjoyed its small town spirit. To me, that spirit is never more on display than when I’m attending community events, especially those surrounding the library.
The Back-to-School fair is one of my favorites. There is no infighting. There is only one goal and everyone works together. It’s astounding!
Another one that seems to be headed in that direction is the Dublin Celebrates America250 events.
Surrounding the library, the July 3 event showcased Dublin’s hometown spirit in all of its festive glory.
The well-attended event offered a communal experience in a friendly relaxed environment.
Under the shade of the trees, the Dublin Rotary Club provided hot dogs. Well meaning citizens either purchased or made sweets for the dessert potluck.
Historian Ben Pate reminded us in the program about the risks and rewards our Founding Fathers took to even start this country 250 years ago.
Every time I turned around, kids were having fun (not with handheld electronic devices) but with games, face painting and crafts.
And though the movie was a little hard to hear, no one cared because they were busy enjoying their red, white and blue floats and popsicles Dublin Dairy Queen provided.
This event was different than some of the others in town that are headed up by this organization or that one (not that those aren’t special too). The Dublin Celebrates America250 event was organized by a group of citizens who just wanted to remind everyone how blessed we are to live in Dublin and in this country.
Though I helped in a minute way, I just wanted to say thank you to all those whose vision of a hometown community block party came to life showcasing Dublin in such a beautiful way.
I’m also pleased to announce that the Dublin Celebrates Facebook page will stay active to offer event information for each and every major event in Dublin like Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day, Hispanic Heritage, Easter and more.
A special shout out to Amy Knickerbocker who is one heck of a red, white and blue hay bale artist.
Thanks Dublin to a great kick-off celebration! I can’t wait to see what July 31st has in store.
