Dublin Celebrates America 250 Friday

Body

Dublin is officially celebrating America’s 250th birthday and everyone is invited out for Friday’s kickoff event – a free communitywide block party!

Don your red, white and blue, and head on over to the grounds of the Dublin Public Library located at 206 West Blackjack from 6-10:30 p.m.

From 6-7 p.m., there will be a hot dog dinner provided by the Dublin Lions Club along with a dessert potluck and kids’ games.

Everyone is invited to bring a dessert to share with the community. Not a baker? Store-bought desserts are perfectly acceptable too!

From 7 to 7:45 p.m. there will be patriotic programming exploring “We hold these truths,” “Oh say can you see…”, “We the People,” and more.

From 8 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. there will be live music from Dublin’s own ENOK plus bonus game time for kids.

The event wraps up from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a movie under the stars showcasing School House Rock’s America Rock, along with free popcorn and red, white and blue DQ floats.

There will also be popsicles and free patriotic owl crafts provided by The Dublin Citizen and Lilly G Arena Events.

“This whole project has been about celebrating our country and our hometown. It’s grassroots at its best — and honestly, it’s been a blast. Watching neighbors, businesses, and our small team of citizen volunteers come together with such passion and excitement has been an incredible experience. It’s going to be a memorable July for all of us,” one of the organizers of the event Amy Knickerbocker said.

Revitalize Dublin is also hosting an America 250 Porch Decorating contest which will be judged Friday. To register your decorated porch, go to Revitalize Dublin’s Facebook page.
