The Dublin ISD Sound of Dublin Band sent nine to state competition in the Solo and Ensemble Contest Monday, May 25 at Hays CISD in the Austin Area. The group earned several awards for their performances: David Nava Rojas, Trumpet Solo, Superior Rating (Gold Medal); Jonathan Enhorabuena, Euphonium Solo, Superior Rating (Gold Medal); Kimila Gonzalez, Alto Sax Solo, Excellent Rating (Silver Medal); Mason Graves, Marimba Solo, Excellent Rating (Silver Medal); Saxophone Quartet (Keighly Lewis, Colbyn Wiley, Kimila Gonzalez, and Jayden Rojas), Superior Rating (Bronze Medal); and Trumpet Trio (David Nava Rojas, Morgan Keith, and Miguel Corrales), Excellent Rating. Dublin ISD head band director Cathryn Smith expressed pride in the group, saying, “The kids worked incredibly hard to earn these honors at the state level, and it has been so rewarding to see judges recognize what we have known all along — these students are truly special. As we close out the final contest of the year, we are beyond grateful to be surrounded by such talented, dedicated, and outstanding kids in our band program.”
