The Lingleville varsity Cardinals and Lady Cards claimed a pair of wins Friday, Jan. 31 as they hosted Three Way for Homecoming.
The Lady Cardinals were following a 42-26 loss to Gorman Jan. 29. Despite the outcome, head girls basketball coach Brandon Haught noticed growth.
“We played so much better this time against Gorman. Last time they beat us by 40, this time we did not let them walk away without a fight,” Haught said. “Nevaeh Jacinto led the way in scoring with 15 points, along with 8 rebounds. Brynlee James was also big for us, scoring 6 and grabbing 7 rebounds. Marti Luttrell played excellent defense against Gorman, holding the best player to just 10 points.”
The Lady Cards bounced back with the 45-13 win over Three Way.
“After the win against Three Way, the Lady Cardinals are (almost) locked into postseason play,” said Haught. “We played much better against this Three Way team this time, as we did not allow them to score until later in the 4th quarter. It was a total team effort in this win, as all the girls pitched in and played heavy minutes. I’m proud of Mya Aviles, Kaitlyn Kolb, Ally Alarcon and Lizzie Crumal for their tough efforts in the 2nd half. I’m proud of how all our girls lifted each other up with chants and cheers during the game.”
The Cardinals went 2-0 for the week beating Gorman 70-52 and Three Way 62-55.
“fter a rocky start to district finishing the first half going 2-4, we have to go 4-2 in the second half to make the playoffs and we are off to a good start,” said head boys basketball coach Garrett Stewart. “I’m super proud of the boys and how they have flipped the switch going into the second half!”
