Peanut Field Day
We will be holding a Peanut Field Day again this year. It has been a good year for crops in the county so far this year. Peanut acreage in the county is nowhere near historic levels, but peanuts are still an important crop for local producers. Prices for peanuts are pretty poor, and high inputs make it even harder to breakeven, but most crops are suffering the same fate and peanut prices are better than some crops.
To support agriculture producers and agriculture businesses in the area, Texas A&M Peanut specialists, the Comanche County Extension office, and our good co-operator Mark Allison have an excellent set of research trials for peanuts. We will be hosting a field day to view these trials and talk with some excellent specialists and producers about varieties, growing conditions and challenges, disease and insect issues, and other topics that will be of interest to all ag producers.
The field day will be held Thursday, September 5th, beginning at 10:00 AM and running to approximately Noon. The field day will be held at the Mark Allison Farm, 1221 County Road 340, Gustine, TX- follow the signs when you get there. There will be 2 CEU’ offered at the field day (1 IPM and 1 General) and lunch will be sponsored by our great local sponsors. This is a field day, so bring a lawn chair if you do not like to stand for very long.
This is always an excellent field day with the opportunity to see up close and first-hand variety and agronomic research that is applicable to our growing conditions.
