The Dublin summer basketball boys split wins at Huckabay Thursday, June 19 and at home Monday, June 23.
In the June 19 games, Dublin squashed Santo 68-17 and fell to Huckabay 81-65.
“I was very impressed with how we played both games Thursday at Huckabay summer league,” said head DHS boys basketball coach Wes Grisham. “We didn’t try to run up the score against Santo or anything—we just couldn’t miss. Every player looked liked they improved dramatically since [that] Monday.”
Grisham said his team “ran out of gas” against Huckabay since they played back to back. “Offense was scoring with ball movement early on and defense was getting a turnover when we gritted our teeth for it,” he added.
Alex Teten led the Dublin squad for scoring and steals Thursday. Kyler Gaitan, Aiden Jeffery, Hudsen Joslin were pests on defense pressuring guards into turnovers as well as the trio hitting some 3-point shots.
Grisham also commended Westin Rollins who he said will be a major threat on the court in the future and Joe Salinas who “had a great day all around with scoring, rebounds, blocking shots and getting steals and assists.”
Brayden Mulder was praised for a dynamic passing game and rebounds. “He was very unselfish in a good way,” said Grisham.
Hunter Lewis also contributed, knocking down a long range 3-point shot and getting a steal off a Santo player.
Grisham also said it was good to see Kyson Gilman back in action and that he played “fearlessly” at the basket.
On Monday, Dublin bested Comanche 62-50, lost to Huckabay 51-53 in overtime and to Brownwood 56-58.
“We played all three games back to back to back,” said Grisham “We started out ahead went through a lull and hit the wall of frustration to then rally back as a team and trusted one another.”
“This summer league was extremely competitive and was the best thing for us,” he added. “I saw a ton of potential for this coming season and I hope our guys did too.”
