The Dublin Economic Development Corporation has been quite busy as the board approved a slew of grants during their recent meeting.
At the Tuesday, Oct. 22 meeting, the board approved a commercial property owner grant request for $7,500 for La Hacienda, located at 316 N. Patrick Street.
EDC commercial property owner grants are available 75% of the total cost of the project, with a cap of $7,500.
For Patricia Sanchez with La Hacienda, the project is for additional storage behind the restaurant.
A $7,500 commercial property owner grant was also unanimously approved for the Dublin Historical Society regarding the Little Church on Grafton. The grant was given for the significant renovation project done to the outside of the church, including new paint and board replacements.
A $7,500 commercial property owner grant was also unanimously approved for John Chapman with Dublin Self Storage. The owner has added more storage and RV storage at the location behind Dairy Queen.
A $7,500 commercial property owner grant was also unanimously approved for Keith Nichols, with newly opened Locked and Loaded in downtown Dublin. The grant was given for the significant branding and work done to the building.
The board unanimously denied giving a commercial property owner grant to Robert and Felicia Blair owners of 215 E. Blackjack (next to City Hall).
The grant was denied because there is not an active business in the building and the board wanted to see a plan of what business would be going into the location.
Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Noah Cullis said the board would be working on improving grant applications so there would be more consistency and there would be some workshops in the future as far as economic development is concerned for the board.
“Many of our grant applicants came to the meeting and that was awesome to see,” Cullis said.
