The Lingleville Lady Cardinals volleyball girls were sitting at 19th in state at the beginning of this week after advancing their win streak to 13.
On Oct. 22, the Lady Cards traveled to Gustine where they won in four sets.
“Gustine played really hard on their senior night and we had to respond to a 2nd set collapse. We really needed this wake up against them in order to keep us pushing,” said head Lingleville volleyball coach Brandon Haught. “A winning streak and district title won’t mean anything come playoff time so we have to make sure we are playing our best at all times. Our girls did a great job of realizing that and finishing out the game the right way.”
Lingleville claimed sets 1, 3 and 4 with 25 while Gustine put up 15, 11 and 11. Gustine claimed the second 25-16.
Stat Leaders were Emma Hudson with 8 Aces, Madison Howle with 15 kills, Cambri Coburn with 10 kills, Denise Toledo with 20 digs and Dylan Gibson with 20 assists.
Haught said the Lady Cards had several distractions on Friday, Oct. 25 as they faced Bluff Dale in an earlier start time, but they were able to overcome.
“We definitely did not play our best game, but found ways to push through and take sets,” he said. “You can’t always win every set by 10 or 15, sometimes you will have to gut it out. While it wasn’t pretty, it was a win to be proud of!”
Lingleville claimed the first set 27-25, the third set 29-27 and the fourth 25-17. Bluff Dale took the second set 25-15.
Stat Leaders against Bluff Dale were Kenleigh Jones with 3 Aces and 21 Digs, Madison Howle with 14 kills and 2 blocks, Sophie Hudson with 10 kills and Dylan Gibson with 36 assists.
The varsity Lady Cardinals advance to the second round of playoffs after playing Ranger on Oct. 29. Details of that game will be announced as available.
The Jr. High Lady Cards also finished as district champs with a record of 9-4 and JV finished with a record of 19-8, indicating a bright future for the program.
