The Lingleville JV and Varsity Lady Cardinals faced tough opposition as they met Breckenridge on the home court, Friday, Sept. 6.

The varsity girls went 0-3 against the visitors as they scored 16, 11 and 18 to Breckenridge’s 25s.

“Breckenridge was a very tough opponent to play against, because they passed the ball so well and actually utilized multiple tempo sets, which has not been something we have been seeing the first few weeks of play,”said Lingleville’s head volleyball coach Brandon Haught.

“We have only played 8 matches against other 1A schools, and the other 20 have been against bigger schools,” he added. “I think we have come a long way in just 4 weeks, because we’re responding to the challenge much better than what we were.”

The Lady Cards will return to facing 1A in the following weeks to give them a better indication of improvements as they head into the district schedule.

Stat leader for the varsity game was Dylan Gibson with 10 assists.

“It’s not easy to be a freshman setting for a bunch of Seniors, but Dylan is handling that pressure well and getting better daily,” said Haught.

The Lingleville JV girls fared better as they claimed a hard fought 2-0 victory, even after watching a large lead vanish in the second set. Haught said the players under coach Lauren Wilson are “stepping up every day.”
